Note: Tour is organized by a non-profit, community based NGO that supports local conservation projects in Mondulkiri. Elephants are rehabilitated into roaming freely through their natural environment. You can feed, groom and bath with the elephants, but we do not ride elephants during the tour.

Introduction & Transport
Meet at the L.E.A.F office on the main street of Sen Monorom (Road NH76), for an introduction talk. We will soon head south to the Mondulkiri sanctuary (12km, about 20 minutes from Sen Monorom ). The drive offers lovely views over the community forests our project is helping protect.

9.00 am – 12.00 pm
Morning hike through the Sanctuary rainforest & Elephant discovery walk.
We begin the day with a short scenic hike into the valley. Our guide, will explain the project goals & the importance of protecting Mondulkiri’s wildlife & habitats.
Next, we’ll find and follow the elephants & their indigenous care takers. As they freely feed in the jungle. We will follow to watch the elephants interact & eat bamboo, grasses and different plant roots as natural medicine. We can take photos of the elephants enjoying life in their natural environment & carefully feed them bananas.

12.00 – 2.00 pm
Lunch at the visitor hut:
Time to hike for a local specialty lunch at the sanctuary visitor hut, following lunch, you can enjoy relaxing hammock time, while enjoying the wild jungle views. There is a fair chance to spot birds & other wildlife in this area.

2:00 – 3:00 Elephant bath & water fun:
In the afternoon, we hike back into the forest & make our way to the Sanctuary’s natural river pool. The mahouts will slowly guide the elephants into the water, for a daily shower & mud bath.
The elephants love grooming each other, scratching against trees and playing in the mud - Swimming with the elephants is super fun and messy!
Mud coating is important in order to keep an elephant’s skin moist, protected and healthy.

3:00 - 4.30pm
After saying goodbye to the ellies & the sanctuary team and start trekking towards the indigenous village of Putang.

5:00 Onwards

On arrival at the village, we will be welcomed by an indigenous Bunong family. Time to refresh, relax and have a wonder around & observe hill tribe’s daily life. For dinner, your hosts will prepare a traditional soup, cooked in bamboo, grilled meat, vegetables & rice with local herbs. We will be spending the night comfortably sleeping in hammocks. 

7:30 - 8.30 am
Wake up & enjoy an open air breakfast.
Meet the LEAF community indigenous guide. Our guides have limited English, as they are indigenous Bunong and never had the chance to attend school. They are learning quickly through working with tourists. If you have any questions your guide doesn’t understand, Torn & LEAF team would be happy to answer.

8.30 – 11:30 am
Morning hike through the jungle – Leng kun waterfall
We begin the day trek: into the wilderness. Once we cross the O’tey river, our Bunong indeginous guide will lead us through Mondulkiri’s incredible forest, rich with flora and fauna. We will make our way to the impressive Leng Kun waterfall, which is over 30 meters high.

11.30 – 1.00 pm
Lunch and swimming break:
We will have a picnic lunch by Leng Ong waterfall, followed by swimming in it’s natural base pool.

1:00 – 4:30
Leng Ret waterfall – bat cave visit – indigenous jungle farms.
After lunch, we continue hiking to Leng Ret waterfall & cave. Walking into the cave, we can see numerous bats sleeping.
During the hike, we will pass by many indigenous jungle farms, here we can see traditional Bunong agricultural systems and local crops such as: Cassava, Chilli peppers, lemon grass, wild rice, pineapples and cashews. Now we’ll have to get our feet wet and cross the river before our final climb out of the forest before reaching the village.
From here, we will be picked up by car and driven back to Sen Monorom.
